Finding the perfect bowstring for your asiatic, mongolian or horse bow can be confusing so I am going to make it simple so that you can enjoy archery. First we are going to cover all information you need to order or build your bowstring, then we will cover how to order it and finally if you are interested, how to build your own flemish twist horse bow bowstring. Whether you are ordering your string or building your own, there are 2 measurements that you need, total length of string and the length of the loops.
- Total length of the string, this is measured from the outside of the loop to the outside of the other loop and is easily measured if you have a string that came with the bow. If you do not have a string you can find the total length of string needed by measuring string groove to string groove along the belly of the bow and subtracting 4”.
- Length of loops. Most traditional bows have standard string grooves that take a standard loop size. But horse bows are different, they have siyahs which require must larger loops ranging from 2-6” long. The loop size is measured with the loops stretched out, from the crotch of the loop to the end of the loop. Usually both loops are the same size for a horse bow but sometimes the top and bottom loops can be different so be sure to check both. If your horse bow does not have a bowstring, you can measure the needed loop size with a piece of paracord or string. Just wrap the string around the siyah where the bowstring loop will lay. PInch it off and measure the length of the loop you created.
With these 2 pieces of information you can order the perfect length of string. My favorite is the D97 string it is the perfect mix of speed and smoothness. Edwin from safford AZ said about the D97 string that he ordered, “Wow! Excellent string, for starters… it came super prestretched,... String is smooth, easier to pull than what I had, and is MEGA QUIET. I can’t believe my bow is this quiet, it’s never been so even with silencers. Thumbs up!”
Select the colors you want, the total length and in the special requests section, enter in the length of loops that you need.
